Last Tuesday, October 21st, I had surgery to remove to cysts on my ovaries. I expected this to be a simple procedure with a quick recovery. I was mistaken. Let me start with explaining the cysts. Because of the family history of breast cancer I have to go through yearly screening tests that include a pelvic ultrasound. The ultrasound showed two tennis ball sized cysts with one on each ovary. It was recommended to have another ultrasound in 6 weeks to see if these cysts went away on their own. They didn't go away and my GYN doctor was concerned that they may be cancerous so she referred me to a oncologist. He didn't feel that they were cancer but did recommend that I have them removed soon. So, I went back to my GYN and she scheduled me for surgery two weeks later. I had my pre-op the day before the surgery and she informed me that she would have to make an incision in my abdomen to remove the cysts because she didn't want to open the cysts inside of me in case they contained cancerous cells. My impression was that this would be a small incision. Well, I woke up from surgery with my entire c-section scar re-opened. I spent one night in the hospital and have been home since. The swelling from the incision is going down quite fast. It's been quite painful though. Eric and the kids have been really great. They are helping me all of the time and the kids are really trying to get along for Mommy which makes me happy. I'm resting as much as I can so that I can go back to work at the end of next week. Currently, I am off work without pay and I really would prefer not to be off from work for two weeks without pay. I haven't been at my job long enough to have sick pay. So, I am resting and being good so that I can heal faster. I hate sitting around anyhow so getting back to normal ASAP is my goal! It's been hard to make myself stay in bed but when I do too much I feel it later! Truthfully, I don't know what I would do without Eric. He always takes such good care of me when I'm not feeling well. I'm so grateful to him. He was quite brave today and took the kids grocery shopping and on a SATURDAY! Luckily, the kids were cooperative for him so it made it easier for him. The kids want me to show everyone my incision because they think it's cool but Mommy prefers to keep it covered up.
So, here I am, back in bed watching TV and playing on the computer. I suppose I should be happy to have the time to relax but I prefer to be up and moving around!
